Old Joe Clark Home on Little Sexton's Creek

The legends are many about Joe Clark, of Sexton Creek. The text on this Kentucky Historical Highway marker refers to just one of them. He was a soldier in Clay County's Colonel T. T. Garrard's Seventh Kentucky Infantry in the Civil War and fought in the Battle of Wildcat, the first battle of the war in Kentucky in the fall of 1861. The house is thought to have been in the Clark family many years before Old Joe came in possession of it.

A Marvel of Restoration

The house, which was covered with weather boarding for many years, was completely restored in 2008. It sits at the junction of Sexton's Creek Road and Little Sexton's Creek road in northern Clay County.
